Iowa Grandparent Rights Visitation
In Iowa family law statutes, a grandparent can petition a court to grant visitation with grandchildren only if his/her own son or daughter is deceased. If the son or daughter is the parent of grandchild and is still living, a grandparent has no legal right to visitation. However, a grandparent can still petition the court for custody or visitation rights.

As with any Iowa family law custody or visitation case, the court decides reasonable visitation and/or custody according to a best interest of the child consideration.
